Project P15
Speed, accuracy and quality control of translation
About
The rate of translation along mRNA is not constant, with phases of rapid synthesis interspersed with ribosome pausing at conserved sites. The project aims at elucidating how kinetic tuning of translation modulates the fidelity of protein synthesis and co-translational protein folding in mammalian cells and in bacteria. We will study how bacteria overcome the deleterious effects of aminoglycosides that alter the speed and fidelity of translation and how aminoglycosides compromise the proteome integrity in mitochondria. Overall, these studies will reveal how kinetic tuning of translational modulates the composition of the proteome and contributes to the regulation of gene expression.
