Project P19

The interplay of mitochondrial ribosomes and the quality control machinery during ribosome rescue

About

The function of the human mitochondrial ribosome is crucial for the supply of cellular energy as it synthesizes the core subunits of the oxidative phosphorylation system. During translation different events can cause ribosome stalling and quality control machineries, which remain poorly understood in human mitochondria, are critical to recognise and to rescue these defective particles. The aim of this project is to define involved components and to reveal the molecular basis for rescuing mitochondrial ribosomes stalled under different conditions.
