Project P09
Structural and mechanistic analysis of nucleocytoplasmic shuttling of RNAs
About
Retrograde nuclear import of RNAs plays an important role in the life cycle of spliceosomal snRNAs, some snoRNAs, telomerase RNA, and tRNAs. Compartment specific processes and the necessary nucleocytoplasmic transport of RNAs facilitate RNA quality control mechanisms. We want to elucidate crystal structures of protein-RNA complexes involved in retrograde nuclear tRNA import and re-export to unveil the molecular basis and regulation of the specific recognition, and we aim to understand their interactions with the permeability barrier of the nuclear pore complex.
