The 6th Night of Science at the Göttingen Campus was a resounding success, as the research institutions on campus welcomed the public to explore the fascinating world of science. Our CRC was thrilled to showcase its research and share its significance with a curious and inquisitive audience.
The evening’s program was kicked off with an introduction to the two members of our CRC, Jörg Stülke and Matthias Dobbelstein, by SFB spokesperson Markus T. Bohnsack. He took the opportunity to explain to the audience what a CRC is and its significance for research. This provided a valuable context for the presentations that followed.
Jörg Stülke took the stage to reveal the incredible potential of bacteria in understanding the fundamental processes of life. These tiny organisms are not only vital helpers, but also produce antibiotics and foreign proteins that can revolutionize industries. He explained how the minimization of a bacterium can create a super-efficient protein producer, paving the way for innovative applications like climate-friendly milk production with real milk protein without the climate-damaging use of cattle.
In the second lecture of the evening, Matthias Dobbelstein shed light on a topic that resonated deeply with the audience: cancer research. He provided a comprehensive overview of tumor development, prevention strategies, the importance of early detection, and cutting-edge therapeutic approaches. The lecture also highlighted the diverse job profiles involved in cancer research, diagnosis, and treatment, sparking a lively discussion that underscored the broad interest in this critical area of research.
